Momos To Be Declared Anti-National! Twitter Slammed BJP For Ban On Momos

Bizarre claims on food habits by Indian politicians have often made headlines in India, and the latest one has come from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. A BJP legislator in Jammu and Kashmir has called for a ban on popular street food Momos (dumplings) alleging that the dish is more dangerous than alcohol and psychotropic drugs.

On Wednesday Ramesh Arora said, “Momos have been found to be the root cause of several life-threatening diseases, including cancer of the intestine”

According to a report by the National Herald, there seem to be undertones of xenophobia in Arora’s rhetoric as, he is conscious of the fact that “foreigners including Bangladeshi and Burmese” are usually the ones involved in the momo business.

For past five months at public functions, he has been speaking to put on a ban on the famous food at least in his state.  He also boasts that due to his campaigning against momos, there has been a drop of 35% in the sale of the street food.

For his comments against the widely loved street food, Arora got trolled by Twitter users:
