Vishal Bhardwaj’s romantic war drama Rangoon opened to a rather lukewarm response this past Friday. With a connection of Rs 6 crore on the opening day, it needs a rapid increasing rate of earnings at the box office in order to cover its costs. But Rangoon did not particularly make any progress on its second day on Saturday and Sunday.
The second day collection was marginally ahead of the first as the film garnered Rs 6.07 crore on Saturday, as reported by Box Office Collection. As per early estimates, the Sunday collection also hangs around the same mark at Rs 6.73 crore.
*Total :- Fri ₹ 6.07 cr + Sat ₹ 5.07 cr + Sun ₹ 6.5 cr = 17.64 cr *
Rangoon, starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan had been the centre of Bollywood’s attention for a long time. The Vishal Bhardwaj directorial released amid a lot of buzz and curiosity. But unlike expected, the film didn’t particularly receive a massive opening. Even Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh seemed bit surprised at the film’s first-day performance as he termed it as ‘dismal.’
#Rangoon has a dismal start… Fri ₹ 6.07 cr. India biz… Will need to show massive growth on Sat + Sun to sustain and survive.

To say that Kangana Ranaut has played a major part in keeping the excitement around the film won’t be wrong. First, she used a whip during the film’s promotions, and later she took on Karan Johar during his own television chat show, making matters even more exciting. And to top, it was the union of Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan on the screen for the first time, that turned eyeballs.

The film has got mixed reviews from the critics but since it is made on quite a high budget of Rs 80 crore, in order to compensate for the three stars’ hefty pays and the large-scale execution of the Bhardwaj’s mission, it will be quite a task to redeem its costs, let alone be declared a box office success.
